Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

I have a buddy that suffered a heart attack about a year ago. Long story short, he was out of work, his cobra ran out, and had no insurance. He had other complications and spent a month in the hospital. The hospital would not forgive the balance and sued him for about 250k. He went to court (without an attorney) and now he has a Judgment against him for the entire balance. He is still not employed and makes no money.

So here's the question. Exactly what does it mean to have a judgment against you, and if you cant, or dont pay, what can happen to you? I'm sure it varies from state to state, but whats the worst that can happen in your opinion? He owns a home, car and has money in retirement accounts, thats about it.

Lives in Florida.
