Car repossion

I had a vechile repossed just over 4 years ago, and now i recieve a letter with a court date that the credit union is sueing me for $4990. Is there a statue of limations? Is there anyway to get out of paying this, without claiming bankruptcy

The debt for any shortfall remains due and owing and the creditor has the right to sue for damages if you do not make a repayment arrangement with them.
