Cedit Card Debt

A few years ago i fill out application for a credit card,not specifying what type of card i wanted well they sent me a visa gold.with a limit of 5,000 dollars i use the card to consolidate my bills. two months later i got a message that i was given a card that should have a limit of 1,000 dollars. now that iam over my limit i have been charge over the limit fees and late fees because i could not get the card under 1,000 dollars fast enough. My question is do i have to pay those fees if it wasn't my mistake.

Not if the charges were made before they advised you of the error.
