charged off to an agency

My credit card was charged off on 5-28-09 and the collection agency says they can settle for 10,000 dollars. I cannot pay that. I want to settle for 1800 dollars. If we don,t come to an agreement can the company sue me I only own a house i live in that is it. I do not work even my husbands salary and profit only can they come after his business? please reply soon

Is your husband on the credit card or, was he an authorized user, did he purchase anything with it, is he on the deed?

If he was not on the card and did not purchase anything with the card, then the collection co cannot rightfully go after him. Is the collection co the owner of the card and or an assignee of the card?

When was the last time any payment was made on the card?

If you owe 10K and expect they will settle for $1800, you are dreaming, unless you have a good defense. Unable to tell if you have a good defense with the facts given.
