Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Client refuses to pay

I was hired to create a website, a contract was signed and dozens of email sent back and forth. Client dragged his feet causing me to miss deadline, then turned around stating because deadline was missed, he no longer wants the site.

I was dumb and did not collect a deposit, but told client he will have to pay for work completed (pro-rated) and he refuses to.

Do I have some sort of legal recourse in this or am I just screwed? I can provide original contract and proof that client caused delay.

Thank you for your help.

Re: Client refuses to pay

If the claim is less than $5,000, bring an action yourself in small claims. Above that you may want to consider an attorney. Does your contract provide for attorney's fees? If so, this will make it easier for you to hire an attorney, assuming the client is collectable.
