Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida
closed doctors office demands payment
I went to a doctor to see about having surgery. They said i needed test done before they would take my case. They did the the test and told me it would be about 12 weeks before they could perform the operation. Before the 12 weeks were up, the doctors office closed down and moved out of florida. Now they want me to pay for the test and have sent my bill to collections. I can not use the results of the test for other doctors that are local. Should I have to pay this bill. Since they left the state, I feel that is there loss because I can not benifit from the test that I had to take.

Re: closed doctors office demands payment
I imagine that when you signed up to do the "tests" that had you sign documentation with that "testing" company or lab. I am sure it stated that you agreed to pay the charges and payment was not dependent on the results. It would have been the same if the doctors office had not closed, but you were rejected for the surgery for medical reasons.
If you have good credit, I suggest that you contact the testing center and work something out immediately. If you have very poor credit or can't afford to pay for the test, it will probably be picked or purchased by a debt collection agency. If it is an they violate your rights, then you may be able to sue the debt collector for violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
