Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida
Collection attempts by possible ''bottom feeders''
Hi, I'm suddenly getting calls and letters from collectors saying they've purchaced an old account from the original creditor. The account (a $980 stereo on credit) began in 1991, and the creditor went out of business in '96. Am I not well beyond the Florida statutes here? Until the recent calls from bottom feeders(I presume) began, I had heard nothing in 10 years. Also, can they follow through on judgment threats if I have no income other than SS disability, and own no home or any real assets?
Thank you

Re: Collection attempts by possible ''bottom feeders''
All debt collection agencies are known as "bottom feeders".
I believe that they are probably violating your legal rights under the Federal Debt Collection Practices Act. I am interested in discussing your case and wonder who is calling and whether you have gotten any written demand letters from the collection agencies.
If they are violating your rights, you may be entitled up to $1000. If I take your case, I do not ask for any fees or costs up front. I only get paid if I win your case and you recover.
