Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

collection notice

I recieved a collection letter from FINTI today and the letter stated that I owed t-mobile $290 which I don't recall oweing t-mobile any money. I never open any services with t-mobile at all so I decided to call them and resolved the matter and they told me the account was open 8yrs ago and originally it was from voicestream and was brought over by t-mobile so they are trying to collect the debt. My question was how should I handle this situation when I don't remember any of this thing took place when they said they have a copy of my driver license and activities of me making payments for a year. So should I request for evidence and if it turn out that the account was under my name should I make that payment even though it has been 8yrs?
