It is legal for a collection company to call you at work, unless you inform them not to do so (I advise you inform them in writing). It is not legal for them to tell others why they are calling, or reveal details about the debt, etc., to anyone. It is legal for them to call a family member once if they cannot locate you, but not if they have a valid telephone number for you and you simply aren't there when they call.
