Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Collections

I just received a collections letter for a check I did not write. It appears to be a check written 6/2005 by my insurance agent (now defunct) to a group insurance company. The collector did not include a copy of the whole check. They clearly cut off the part of the check that states who wrote it. My name and account information is in the memo line of the check. It is not my check. The collector states in the letter that I have seven days to pay or a warrant is going to be issued for my arrest! The collection agency is unlicensed. It appears to be run out of a home in Mesquite, Texas. Can they hold me responsible for a check I did not write?
