Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

can a collector charge a person an amount about half more that what is reported on there credit report. and what if the person paid the amount thats on the credit report and the collect wants to charge about three thousand dollars more than what is on the credit report

It depends...How much is actually owed? The credit report could be wrong. It probably fails to account for ongoing interest (if there is any, depends on the nature of the debt). Is there a provision for cost of collection in the underlying document giving rise to the debt? (i.e.: judgment, contract etc...)

This is possibly a violation of the Florida Fair Debt Credit Act and Unfair and Deceptive Trade Practices Act. You need to have all of this reviewed carefully. Why not ask the collector where he or she comes up with this and where is it supported in any agreement or law. Tell him you are going to record the conversation and do it.
