Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Complaint for damages

I have been served with a complaint for damages from a credit management company. It alledges default on a credit card, my questions are these:

I had worked out a deal with the Bank that issued the card, the bank then sold the debt to this company which refused to talk to the company I hired originally to negotiate the debt. No payments were ever made due to the company I hired going out of business and the banks refusal to get back to me no further purchases made for over 5 years. I was told this may be over the statute of limitations. I do not know how they can transfer or sell the debt as that was also not in the agreement or regulations concerning the credit card. I had tried to make it right with the original holder but it seems I was taken advantage of. I am trying to answer the complaint before the 20 calender days and would appreciate any help. Also does the 20 days mean business or regular days?
