Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida
I have been contacted by a collection company informing me that legal charges have been filed against me for bad checks for a payday loan. The lender had previously been notified that the debt was being handled by a conslidation program and all contact would need to be directed to them. The lender ignored all correspondence from this company niether agreeing to or rejecting settlements. I asked the collection agaent to provide me with a fax # so that I can send a debt verification letter and he refused telling me if I calle dhis office again he would file harrasment charges against me hen hung up on me. I called and asked for his supervisor who conviently was not in the office nobody there would provide me with a # in addition they are asking for and additional $173.43 in unexplained fees on top of the original loan and fees of $379.80. If they cannot provide me with verification that they are handling this debt and explain what the additional money is how am I supposed to resovle this matter. Especially when I am being hung up on and this agent has called my job not to speak with me but to my boss to tell him about my debt and that I am a low life and he will have to find a replacement once Im arrested for bad checks.
How do I handle this?
