Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Going to Court

I was served with papers regarding a credit card debt I am unable to pay. Reasons for nonpayment include a drastic cut in income: divorce/death of husband, my own inability to work due to health problems, and caring for a severely disabled child. I do not own a home, the only asset is a ten yr old van, and I reside in low-income housing. Household income consists of SSI (3 children) and SSA (Survivors' Benefits) for 3 children. Total income is about 1800.00 mo.

When I appear in court to resolve this issue, what is most likely to happen? What happens when the person cannot pay a credit card debt and ends up in court? This particular debt is less than 800.00, but others I am not paying and are likely to be sued for total around 12,000.

Thank you for your time.

Re: Going to Court

It appears that any judgment entered against you will not be collectable. If you decide it is best to file for bankruptcy, do so within the next 150 days.
