Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida
Credit Card Debt Collection
I received a notice from a collection agency on an account sold to a portfolio group. The account dates from 1994 and has had no payments since 1996. The purchased balance is $1999.05; total balance is $5783.20. The debt collector is asking for half of the amount. There has never been contact for collection, nor does this debt show on my credit report. Is there a statute of limitations on this debt? What recourse do I have for disputing this debt?

Yes there is a statute of limitations in florida, 4 years without a signed agreement, 5 years with a signed agreement. Please contact my office should you need to hire legal counsel.
