What can credit card companies or collection agencies legally do to collect the debt? To what extremes are they allowed to go? Are they allowed to attach any personal property or business assets?

They cannot attach the income of the head of household or social security income. All personal property and business assets are fair game.

The judgment creditor my levy upon any non-exempt property the judgment debtor has an interest in, to the extent of that interest, or that the debtor owns.
