Old Credit Card Debt

I live in Florida now and Acquired a mass amount of credit card debt in the state of New Jersey the debt is 10 years old - a credit agency called and threatedned to take me to court and file criminal charges can they do that and is there anything they can do i thought the staute of limitations expired after 6 years? Please help!! Single mom who can't afford to pay this now!
