Re: Credit Card Information
A debt collector has the right to access your credit report in an attempt to collect on the debt. I must tell you that my experience with consolidation companies is quite disappointing. Most consumers end up not being able to make the monthly payments. Additionally, consumers believe that they will improve their credit by paying the old accounts off, and that is NOT accurate. I would suggest that you visit my web page for free educational articles -- understanding the credit system. You may not realize this, but by paying very old debts, you re-start the clock and the debts can again be reported for another 7 years on your credit reports from the last date of payment.
I know this is quite frustrating and confusing, but, as I tell all of my clients, become informed. Learn your rights. You can recover your credit. A credit score is a snap shot of where you are now. All future information reported on your credit report, if positive, can overcome any blemish you had in the past. As the information becomes stale, it falls off.
