Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Credit obligation of deceased spouse

A widower finds out that his wife had credit card debt before her death. He was not on the credit application, nor a co-signer on the account. Being the surviving spouse, is he personally responsible to the credit card companies for payment of the balances due on her accounts?
