Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

creditor never responds to validation letter.

I debt that is over 1 year old and I am currently working on my credit report. I sent a letter of validation to the creditor and they do not respond. However, I sent a letter to the credit bureau at the same time and they have verified this with the credit bureau. What can I do? I never received any info back from creditor. Is that legal? Is there anything I can do on my behalf? Does the laws protect my rights in having the creditor verify this debt? please advise.

Re: creditor never responds to validation letter.

NOTE: This communication is not intended as and should not be interpreted as legal advice. Rather, it is intended solely as a general discussion of legal principles. You should not rely on or take action based on this communication without first presenting ALL relevant details to a competent attorney in your jurisdiction and then receiving the attorney's individualized advice for you. By reading the "Response" to your question or comment, you agree that the opinion expressed is not intended to, nor does it, create any attorney-client relationship, nor does it constitute legal advice to any person reviewing such information, nor will it be considered an attorney-client privileged communication. If you do not agree, then stop right here, and do not read any further.

The credit bureau is supposed to delte any negative information on your credit report which is not verified within 30 days of a request. I would send each bureau a certified letter telling them you will hold them respobsible for damages under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act if the improper or unverified information is not removed immediately. That should get their attention and hopefully, immediate relief.
