My 75 year old father is in a nursing home, unable to take care of himself. All his money goes to the retirement home. Can I be legally responsible for his debts?

No, not unless you guaranteed or authorized the debt in your name. A child is not responsible for the parent's debts.

In addition to the earlier post, if your father passes with any estate the debts of your father will be paid with those estate assets before you are able to inherit.
