Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Deceased Debtor Responsibilities

When my father recently passed away, I informed his credit card company that he was deceased. The credit card company informed me the account balance was ''closed'' and to ignore the next statement until account cleared. I received a letter from a lawyer's office addressed to my father, requesting copy of death certificate, however, also inquiring of any filing of estate and ''as to the intentions of the family with regard to the satisfaction of the Decedent's outstanding debts. My question is, what are/if any family obligations financially? The card was in his name only. How should I respond?

If the estate has non-exempt assets it is responsible. You can send a copy of the death cert. If anything further, consult with counsel.
