Deceased Persons Debts

if a person is dead does his family have to pay his debt and can the collection company force his spouse to reveal all financial documents for the previous five years - even if the surviving spouse has established a trust for asset protection

The estate of the deceased is responsible for his debts, not his family.

The estate, not the family, is responsible to pay the debts. An attorney not a collection agency can depose a third party , in aid of execution, after a judgment against the debtor (the estate) is obtained.
