Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Someone defaulted on a loan that I co-signed for

I co-signed a car loan for a friend of mine, who promptly quit making payments and left town. I have been making payments for 2.5 years now. During this time, I have been unable to locate her. Just recently, I did, and I need to know how to get either the money from her, or the car (if it is still even around). The loan was made in N. Carolina, and she is currently living in Florida. What are my rights? If I need a lawyer, what kind would I need? Is this something I can take care of without a lawyer?

You must sue her in Florida. Depending upon how much is involved I suggest you retain a lawyer.

There are a number of somewhat complicated questions that must be answered. The law of which jurisdiction is applicable? Is there an anti-deficiency law applicable in that jurisdiction? Where is the car? I think an attorney would be most helpfull in answering the legal questions posed.
