Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Sent in dispute letter - still getting phone calls

I have been contacted by a law firm for a debt by phone and then by mail. I followed the instructions in the letter to request additional documentation of the debt as I don't remember owing this money. The law firm called and confirmed receipt of my letter, but they indicated that they don't have all of the documentation, and they would have to get it from another party. When I pressed, the collector said he would just send me a court summons instead. Is this legal?

Yes it is always legal to serve you with a complaint, but they still have to be able to prove you owe the debt. Any and all communications with a debt collector should always be done in writing via certified mail return receipt.
