Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Equity Loan

I have been divorced since june of 2004,in october of 2003

we sold our house and payed off all outstanding balances, along with a home equity loan.I assumed that once the property was sold and the loan payed off, it would be closed. But now I find out that it was not, and that my ex-wife has been using the line and owes $15,000.00.I've tried to take care of the matter with the bank, but they say that my name cannot be removed from the loan. The only thing that they say that I can do,is have my ex apply for a personal loan under her name, and to pay the home equity line off.

My ex has no credit and nothing of value under her name. This

is ruining my credit. What is my legal situation here, and what can I do about this matter?

Re: Equity Loan

Assuming your divorce documents are silent on this matter you are responsible for the loan and may seek reimbursement.
