As my father's POA, can I be held responsible for his debts?

My father had a stroke and resides in a nursing home, without any likely possibility of recovering. I am now his POA. I have been receiving harrassing phone calls from a creditor that is threatening to sue me. They say as his POA I am responsible for his debts! Can this be true?
