filing a lein on property

How would we file a lein on property to get non-suffieicnt funds and stop payment checks and non payment all together collected for real estate appraisals that have been ordered from lending institutions and by the individual themselves. We are an appraisal firm that has some outstanding appraisal fees owed to us.It was told to us by a lender that a lein could be imposed to secure payment of the appraisal done to the said property.
