Does Florida law limit the amount a credit collector can collect over and above the original debt?

Not that I am aware of. They are entitled to collect any amounts owed plus late fees and accrued interest.
If you feel that you might be taken advantage of, you should consult an attorney who is knowledgable of the Fair Debt Credit Practices Act. It is a federal law which sets forth the rights of a debtor in a collection matter.
