Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida
My gf at the time was trying to get into a technical school in the nursing program in Dec of 2009. She was going to use the GI Bill to pay for schooling but didn't get her paperwork in on time in order for them to pay before school started, however, they would reimburse her during the semester for the amount that it costed for the semester. So I loaned her the money, which she promised to repay by reimbursing me when she received the money. She told me over and over as soon as she gets it, she will pay me back. There was no written agreement and nothing was signed.
Since then, we have broke up and she tells me that she doesn't owe me anything. However, last friday (5/21), she sent me texts begging me not to take her to court, that she would pay me back when she got the money (I still have all these texts on my phone, there is a bunch stating that she would pay me back when she received it). She also called my phone and left a voicemail, stating "you can record this, I don't believe I owe you anything, but I will pay you back when I receive the money" (which I still have on my phone too), however, now she is telling me that she isn't paying me and won't sign anything when I told her I don't need it now, just when she gets it.
Can I take her to court and get my money back that she has verbally promised to repay me, which is just under $1700??

yes, take her to small claims and get your money back.
