Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

My grandpa has 39,000 in credit card debt, that he can no longer pay. He does not have any liquid assets, but he does own a home. What will happen to the debt if he passed away before it is paid? And can they go after his home now or if he passes away?

Thanks,

Concerned granddaughter, Julie.
