Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida
Gym membership
I tried to cancel my gym membership (24 month contract) because I was no longer able to attend. The gym I joined is 5 minutes from my work but 45 minutes from my home. I explained up front I may not be able to maintain the contract for a full 24 months and was told as long as I provide 30 days notice, it wouldnt be a problem. Not only did they not cancell my membership, they sent me a bill for the full contract and have sent me to collections. the collector said I would be served papers for not paying. Can they sue me for this?

Re: Gym membership
What does your contract say? Is there a clause which says you can cancel with 30 days (or some other) notice? If not, you're stuck with the contract and, yes, they can sue you for it.
