That's not the question. You need to ask 2 questions: 1. Am I required by law to be represented by an attorney? No, you are not. Corporations and other business entities are required to be represented in litigation unless the case is in small claims court. Individuals can represent themselves. Question 2: SHOULD I hire an attorney? In other words, is it in my best interests to hire an attorney, or do I feel as if I can represent myself? Am I willing to research what I think I need to know, or should I pay money to someone who already knows what to do and say? That's really what you are asking. Nobody knows but you.

There are a lot of lawyers who handle these types of cases and many times for a very small fee if the right case. We get most of our fee from the collection companies. Go to the National Association of Consumer Advocates NACA.org to find a lawyer in your area to assist you in your area.
