After hurricane property damage called private adjuster

After having property damage in our house from Hurricane Wilma, our homeowners ins. sent an adjuster who said how extensive our damage was while he was here. Days later he called to give us his results & offered us much less money($29K but 10 go to ded.) than we need to make necessary repairs and said the complete opposite over the phone than when he was here. That our damage looks worse than it really is and we'll be able to ask for more money later. They sent us 2 checks which we haven't cashed & contacted a private adjuster referred to us by a friend.I can't remember if he gave me anything to sign when he came over, & the first few times we called to see what our status was (he's supposed to be contacting our ins. co. on our behalf to get us more $) he said he was working on it.We haven't heard anything else, continue to leave messages and he doesn't return our calls. If we decide to call up another adjuster, & if I did sign an agreement with him, what could he do to us? FYI: my husband's a surgeon & our house is pretty big so he must think we're wealthy & might want to press charges for the 20% (of the amount he'd collect for us) that he was supposed to receive if he got us anything. Our ins co says they've never heard of him.

You must get hold of whatever documents were executed. An attorney must see your contract to determine its validity. I had a client in your situation and was able to help b/c of deficiencies in the document.

If you cannot locate your documents write him certified mail to contact you within 7 business days or you will deem any agreement terminated.
