Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida
My husband was informed that he would be going to Iraq. So, when the date became close he called Alltel and asked them to freeze his account due to him leaving. They assured him that they would do so. He payed for the next two months and then was shipped off to Iraq. When he returned he found out that Alltel was bought by Verizon. So, he went to Verizon to get a new phone and activate his account. He then found the outstanding fee from Alltel. He called and inquired about it. They didn't freeze his account and continued to charge him while he was in Iraq. He faxed his orders to them twice. They removed all fees except the late fees, because it apparently was a legitimate fee. He has tried to pay this fee for some time now to get it off his credit report, but every time he calls they assure him they is no balance to pay. Today we just got a letter in the mail from NCO Financial Systems, Inc stating he has a $315.71 fee from Verizon Wireless even though they had assured us he had no fee. He called once again, they had him call other numbers and other numbers. No one has given us a explanation to all these fees that he should not be paying.
