Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

my husband passed away and he had a large hospital bill. Am I responsible to pay these bills?

No, not unless you signed something that agreed to pay his debt. If the bill just comes to him, you need not pay it.

Your husband's estate is responsible for paying the bill once other expenses such as funeral expenses are paid. If an estate was not opened for your husband, I'd strongly recommend you consult with a probate attorney to determine whether it is necessary to open probate and establish an estate.
