Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida
Judgment
I have a 15 year old judgement that is not on my credit any longer, but a lawyer is now coming after me to settle this debt. I've tried to settle this debt for $.50 on the dollar (that's all I have) but they want another $2000. I've done some internet research and have found that judgements have to be refiled after 10 years. The lawyer rep is telling me that is not true. I love in FLorida. Does a judgement have to be refiled after 10 years, and if so, what happens if it's not.

Under Florida law, a certified judgment when recorded in the public records serves as a lien for 10 years. If it is not renewed, it will expire. If it is recorded again, it is good as a lien for another 10 years. If it is not recorded, it dies a natural death.

Re: Judgment
The lien may no longer exist, however the judgment has a life of 20 years and can be enforced during that time.
