Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

A former landlord has reported me to a collection agency for repairs that occurred after I had moved out. My brother continued to live at the residence but I never resigned the lease. The landlord is being completely uncooperative and the charges are unfair to begin with. Do I have any legal recourse to get the collection charges dropped?
