Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Can a law firm sue me for a credit debt

A guy called me claiming to work for a law firm (not a lawyer) and stated the law firm bought my debt from a collection agency and now wants me to pay the debt at once within 24 hours or my file will be concidered for suit. Can they do this? How can i be sure they a legitimate? thanks

It is proper for a law firm to purchase debt. In the course of collection, the firm and its employees must comply with the provisions of the Fair Debt Colection Practices Act and related statutes. If it (they) don't then it (they) would be exposed to the penalties for such action.
