Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida
Where does the law stand on this issue of possesion?
I have a friend who was put in jail last week. His roommate is trying to sell off all of his things. He claims that my friend owes him for some unspecified bill. He also claims that since my friend is in jail that he has a right to do this. He has not yet even spoken to my friend about this supposed debt. Can he do this?

Your friend's roommate is commiting theft of property. In order to sell off your friend's things on a debt owed he must first obtain judgement against him and then Levy his property weather he was in jail or not. He would have court paperwork to that effect. If he actually sells off anything call the police and report him for theft. Then he and your friend will be roommates again.
