Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida
Lawsuit
In January I hired a debt settlement company to help me get my credit card debt under control. I gave them limited power of attorney to deal with 5 of my credit card banks to make settlements with them. One of the creditors - GM - is now suing me. The settlement company tells me not to contact them but to reply to the summons as if I don't know anything to ''buy time''. I just want to make some kind of settlement - I can scrape up about 50% of what I owe and I don't want this to go on any further. I don't know what to do. Should I contact the suing lawyers to make a deal? Should I hire a lawyer?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Re: Lawsuit
Depending on the amount, you may be better served to hire a lawyer to try and negotiate a resolution. The real question is how much do you want to pay in total (legal fees plus settlement). Please feel free to call my office at 305.357.0296.
