letter from collection agency

i received a letter from a collection

agncy asking for 40% off of a very

pat due amt. also my son in another

state same first name as mine rec'd

same letter. and same letter sent to

all prev. add i had. and probably to

every person with the same name as

mine. is this legal? what can i do.
