A judgment, recorded in the county in which you own real property, operates as a lien against that property.

"Homestead exemption" is a term used in the property tax area - it applies to the taxable basis of the property. "Homestead property" is different. It basically eans that your home is safe from creditors being able to foreclose on it, unless the creditor is the mortgage holder.
