Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Medical Bills and Property Leins

My brother-in-law recently passed away. His wife will be getting funds from his life insurance policy. We wanted to know if there is any way that the bill collectors (for medical bills) can garnish the funds from this policy to pay for the medical bills. Also, can they put a lein on her home and/or force her to sell the home to collect for the bills. She has not worked for the past 14 years and therefore, at this time has no income.

His estate is responsible to pay creditors not his wife.
