Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Medical Bills of $25,000+

I was recently pregnant. During my pregnancy the doctors found that our baby had an extremely rare heart disease and referred us to multiple doctors/facilities on a regular basis. It has been a month now since having the baby and we are starting to receive bills that have exceeded our insurance coverage. We expect to have approximately $25,000+ of medical bill debt. We are not poor and don't expect to meet any low income assistance requirements, but are unable to fork over all of the money at once, or even in one year. Upon calling to make payment arrangements with the billing companies we have found that they are not very flexible and we are afraid that, even with monthly payments being made, they might send us to collections.

What can we legally do to stop our bills from showing up negative on our credit report? Are there any laws that help us?

No. Your best alternative is to work out a written payout agreement with them.
