Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

moving company requests additional payment 1 year later?!

Quick question. I moved 1 year ago and the company who moved me

recently sent a letter indicating I owe them $1400 still and if I don't pay they

will call a collection agency. The move was interstate (FL-VA) and the

company was based in FL. Payment was made in advance ($3500) and a

refund was given after the move was complete. They claim they accidentally

refunded $1500 but should have only refunded $100.

I feel that its bogus for them to call me after an entire year since my company

will no longer reimburse me for the additional expense. Are they legally

allowed to charge me after so long? They never gave me a final invoice, they

only sent an email indicating my account was done processing and my refund

was in the mail. Should I get a lawyer or just pay up? Thanks!

Re: moving company requests additional payment 1 year later?!

Without credible additional proof(I mean itemization with exolanation of each component of the additional expense now being claimed by the moving company, I would resist if it were me their untimely and importunate demands. And furthermore, even if the company succeeds in offering such credible proof, due to the fact that they are now submitting it a year late, any offer of settlement that you might tender these dilatory movers, should only(in my view) amount to some fraction of what they are asking for given the fact that you, apparently, through no fault of your own would no longer be able to be reimbursed for this additional expense by your company.
