It depends on the type of credit. If it's a credit card, you may not have to pay it. In Florida, the statute of limitations usually runs out on credit card collections five years after you receive the card, charge on the card, or make a payment on the card, whichever comes last. If the statute of limitations has run out, you may have a defense to payment. You should speak to a local lawyer and describe the type of debt to learn more.

More likely than not, no. If a collection company is pursing such a claim, see me or someone in your area. The collection company may be violating the law.
