Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Pay again

My wife and I own a home. Had new windows and a garage door installed 6/2000, via contract with Window company. (Never dealt with garage door co.) Work was done, full pmt made, and a month later the window co went out of business, so the garage door co never got their pmt. Now, 1 1/2 years later, they are coming after us for pmt. Threats of law suits and liens on property.

Do we owe them? I have been trying to find a case example or state law that would give the answer in black and white.

Please help me. Thanks. Email would be great.

Re: Pay again

I would look at the Florida Mechanic liens statute. A subcontractor can recover under a mechanic lien if the followed certain very strict guidelines under the law. It is a very complex area of the law. Good luck. www.helpwithlaw.com.
