Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Question(s) regarding bad checks in another state.

My significant other and I have relocated from Florida to Missouri for

financial reasons (cost of living, etc.). My partner is on disability

(social security) and I am currently unemployed but looking for work.

We had a joint checking account in Florida and have some outstanding

checks that bounced there. We want, in good conscience, to clear

those items up, but don't know what we are getting into.

What we need to know are:

1) Some of the checks were for amounts over 2 or 3 hundred dollars.

Does this qualify as a felony? We assume so.

2) Will the prosecutor be likely to want to work with us on repaying

these checks if we contact him?

3) Are they likely to want to haul us back to Florida or otherwise

mess with us here in Missouri?

4) Reader's Digest version: If we contact the prosecutor or city

attorney, will we be able to gracefully get ourselves out of this

predicament?

5) Do we need a lawyer at this point, or is this something we can take

care of arranging without legal representation?

This is a felony. I suggest you work through a go between, such as a lawyer. I would require a general release with each payment. Call me to discuss at 561 998 9401.
