Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

I have just received a summons from a lawyer of a creditor for an unsecured debt. I do know I have to response to the summons in writing and will do this.

But my question is, is it possible to settle/negoiate a unsecure debt with a creditor once I have received a summons? I have being making payments to to creditor/lawyer prior to the summons, but it was not the payment required.

You can negotiate, but it will probably have to be with the lawyer's office rather than directly with the creditor.
